The article in May 2024 (in the Guardian) highlighted issues that had been 'rumored' around the Bentham community for years.

The article exposed 23 breaches of Angus Fires PFAS permit held with the Environment Agency in 10 years. 

This included flooding of their highly polluted lagoons (which have 'stored' PFAS related chemicals since the 1970's), discharges into the public sewer system, discharges into the water course (Wenning River), failures to notify about breakdowns in their smoke stack monitoring system.

One of the three (registered) Boreholes on the Angus Fire is polluted and there has been recordings of PFAS pollution in other boreholes in the area, one registering 38.9 times higher than the "recommended" PFAS "safe" limit (just 450 yards from Angus's Site).

There seems to have been systematic failures in Angus Fires Environmental Responsibility which may have been going on for decades.

In the article Bentham is shown to have an abnormal cancer rate, much higher than similar demographics in the area. So, we want independant testing done on their site, and other areas we have identified.

This information needs to be shared with locals (what ever the outcome), so we can make an informed desicion on what needs to be done.

This isn't a witch hunt as a group we love Bentham, many members of the group have lived here for years, or had generations live here, we have businesses here, friends & family. 

We want a clean, safe environment for us, the visitors and our families and as such we have identified the Aims and Objectives of the campaign.
